Mission Statement with a brief definition of Community Technology
Communication technology simply defined is any technology that enhances communication, generally with the ability to reach a greater number of people in a shorter amount of time than vis-a-vis communication. While communication technology can be considered to date back thousands of years ago, a widely recognized communication technology in the Print Era was the printing press created by the German Johann Gutenberg in 1455 a.d., which allowed for books and publications to be printed much more quickly than physical hand writing. As a result, technology propelled and the world saw the telegraph created by Claude Chappe in 1794, the telephone, computers, mobile technology, the internet, social media, digital scrap-booking and more.
The mission of this website is to discuss the future of three communication technologies, social media, eBooks and cloud computing. The three technologies listed were influenced from research of Moore's Innovation Adoption Rate, Uses and Gratification Theory and Media System Dependency Theory. Moore's Innovation Adoption Rate gives a great perspective on the capabilities of computer technology, Uses and Gratification Theory discuss a psychological reasoning for dependency, and the Media System Dependency Theory discusses how individual needs are correlated with media usage. For comparison purposes, the site also contains an outlined list of historical communication technology in the years 1994 and 2004.
